During the Helsinki Design Week, our Embassy opened its gates to the public on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its construction. The guestlist included prominent architects from all over Europe as well as young talents, seeking to connect with experienced designers.

After the opening speeches by Iván Medveczky Deputy Head of Mission, and Kari Korkman Founder of the Helsinki Design Week, our guests played the - trademark of the event -  Design Diplomacy card game, in which acknowledged architect István Mányi, who led the renovation of the Hungarian Embassy in 1999 and Päivi Meuronen the driving force behind JKMM Architects’ interior designs had to ask each other various questions.

Opening remarks by Iván Medveczky Deputy Head of Mission

The game was a brilliant opportunity to create a relaxed conversation and meaningful international connection between the design professionals and the audience. The questions were both professional and personal, which gave room to the panelists to share their philosophy regarding architecture, stories, memories while also outlining the person behind the profession and who they are in their everyday life.

The discussion between István Mányi and Päivi Meuronen was moderated by Kari Korkman

Our guests also had the chance to take a small tour around the Embassy, with traditional and unique Hungarian relics on display, such as traditional Hungarian porcelain sets, paintings and statuettes of different artistic styles from the abstract works of Pál Gerson to the idyllic figurines of Margit Kovács. It was a great opportunity to foster friendships in the company of fine Hungarian wines and specialty dishes.

Our gests also took part in a guided tour showing the artifact collections of the Embassy and the Finnish-Hungarian Society
